DRAWING SETUP

4. Other Drawing Requirements (Concluding...)

t. Xrefs – AutoCAD term for external reference. Xrefs help to organize drawing information, enhance coordination, and minimize redundant data. The xref path shall not include drives, directory designations, or relative paths (AutoCAD Release 2004 feature). Place the xref on a layer whose name contains the Minor Group REFR. Circular references are prohibited.

u. Attached Image Files – Images may be incorporated into drawings by the IMAGEATTACH command (which produces a link, much like an xref), or by the INSERTOBJ command, which can produce a linked or embedded OLE object, or by the PASTE command, which produces an embedded OLE object. Images may be used for renderings, maps, etc. If images are attached, include image files with the submission.

v. Convention – The standard universal conventions for drawings should be strictly followed like
  • The Plan (Layout) should be in the lower left corner, the Elevation should be right on top of the plan as if projected from Plan and the Section should be in the upper right corner in alignment with both Plan and Elevation.
  • The Vports for different scaled details should also be composed accurately to avoid the overlapping / mixing of Vports.
  • Appropriate Ltscale should be set to show all line types properly in all viewports with different scales.
w. Appearance – All the drawings should have identical Title Block by default. The Title Block should also be X-ref to maintain the look, size and style of the drawing. In short
  • All existing and/or constant objects should be X-ref
  • All proposed and/or design objects should be Current Drawing.

x. Save – All drawings should be saved in AutoCAD 2004 Format. Digital signatures are allowed. Password protection is prohibited.

y. Check – All files to be checked with DWS file at the studio end.

z. Purge – All files to be purged before transmittal to remove all unused and/or unwanted objects from the drawing.

5. Typical Directory Structure for a Project.

The prefixed * indicates the objective specification like Furniture, Wall, Internal, Joinery respectively
The suffixed * indicates the level like 01 – First Floor or AA – Section line
The typical file names with Path for a project ‘2010would be –
First Floor Furniture Layout – D:\2010\Drawings\Current Drawings\Layouts\Furn_Layout01.dwg
First Floor Partition Layout – D:\2010\Drawings\Current Drawings\Layouts\Part_Layout01.dwg
First Floor Ceiling Layout – D:\2010\Drawings\Current Drawings\Layouts\Ceil_Layout01.dwg First Floor Reflected Ceiling Layout – D:\2010\Drawings\Current Drawings\Layouts\RCeil_Layout01.dwg
First Floor Wall Finish – D:\2010\Drawings\Current Drawings\Finishes\Wall_Finish01.dwg
First Floor Sections – D:\2010\Drawings\Current Drawings\Sections\AA_Section01.dwg
First Floor Partition Detail – D:\2010\Drawings\Current Drawings\Details\Part01_Detail01.dwg

We will have a look at some of the 'Supplimentary Tables' tomorrow. Stay tuned…!
